Long-term tribocorrosion resistance and failure tolerance of multilayer carbon-based coatings

Abstract Current tribocorrosion research of metallic materials and their surface protective coatings mainly focuses on short-term properties, with test time 0.5–2.0 h a sliding distance 50–500 m, which may significantly deviate from the practical long-term service condition thus cause catastrophe marine equipments. In this study, three carbon-based multilayer (Ti/DLC, TiC x /DLC, Ti—TiC /DLC) were deposited S32750 substrates, both behaviors investigated. The experimental results indicate that substantially improve resistance stainless steel. During test, /DLC exhibited best owing to its high hardness. however, coating indicated anti-tribocorrosion performance excellent fracture toughness together Moreover, under 5 N, can withstand more than 24 h.
